Rights to harvesting 50 ancient walnut trees located in Yangbi County, Yunnan Province, for two years are sold on September 28, 2018 at the auction hosted by Shanghai International Commodity Auction Company (SICA). The total amount reaches ¥1.674 million with a premium rate of 1,620.81%. This is the second auction to support the local people and mitigate poverty after the first one was held successfully last year.
Yangbi is an autonomous county of the Yi ethnic group, located in the middle of Dali Prefecture in Yunnan. It spans an area of 1,860 square kilometers, 80% of which is covered by forest. Thirteen ethnic groups live in Yangbi, including the Yi, Han, Bai and Hui peoples.
The harvesting rights to all 50 trees undergo 672 rounds of bidding. The starting price of lot No. 1 is ¥3,200 and reaches ¥118,000 after 63 rounds of bidding. Lot No. 2 is sold at ¥100,000 after 37 rounds from the same starting price.
The harvested walnuts will be delivered in October 2018 and October 2019. Yangbi will take care of the drying, sorting, packaging and logistics of the products, and provide the purchasers with monthly update about the actual situations of the walnut trees by photos and videos.
